MJ Cronje Boukontrakteurs, works mostly in the residential sector, although we gladly accept work from the commercial and industrial sectors as well. We work mainly in Stilbaai and Jongensfontein. In the case of new buildings though, we work throughout the Hessequa area in the Western Cape Garden Route District Municipality. All over Stilbaai and Jongensfontein beautiful examples of perfect construction stand as evidence of our abilities. Those buildings speak louder than words ever can.

WHAT WE DO

As Building Contractors our services revolve around building related projects which can be divided in four groups. These groups are new buildings, renovation of existing buildings, extension of existing buildings and restoration of historic buildings.

Projects from Scratch

In the case of new buildings, be it residential, commercial or industrial buildings, our work area includes Riversdale and the rest of the Hessequa region.

Renovations

Our team of skilled and experienced tradesmen are ready to embark upon your special renovation project with enthusiasm and professional pride.

Restorations

Restoration work on historic buildings has to be done according to the regulations of the National Heritage Resources Act. This is all about conservation of heritage resources in South Africa

To quote from the Act: Historical buildings form part of our national heritage, and alterations or demolitions will require heritage conservation permission. In South Africa, all structures over 60 years old – including their fixtures and fittings, are protected in terms of the National Heritage Resources Act, 25 of 1999.

In the Stilbaai area there are many such houses, e.g. houses on the Son-en-See Beach front in Stilbaai-West. The restoration process may not compromise the historic character of the building. If you are the owner of a heritage home, you need to obtain the necessary permit from the authorities before modifications can be made to the house.

Before the restoration process, certain aspects have to be considered, e.g. original building materials, architecture, building techniques and engineering. With today’s tools, practices and materials the restoration has to be done as closely to the original structure as possible. This is obviously not a job for any old ignorant builder.

Restoration work is not always for historical purposes. Your house might need restoration work to reverse the process of decay over time, or to repair storm damage as a result of strong winds and heavy rainfall.

SINGLE PROJECTS

You might only need a piece of paving, or a paint job, or some tiling or stonework done, but do not know who to turn to for help. Although we are mainly building complete houses, we also accept single projects since we have the necessary skills-sets among our team.

Your project is important to you, therefore it is important to us. No matter how big or small, all projects are equally important to us and we treat all projects with equal care and precision. CLADDING & STONEWORK

In coastal areas such as Stilbaai and Jongensfontein where dampness and salty sea-winds are mostly the norm, some kind of cladding offers extra protection to your property. Cladding in these areas is mainly by means of wood or sandstone which is natural to the area. By cladding your house, you enhance the appearance as well as provide weather resistance and some degree of thermal insulation. To do proper sandstone cladding or stonework requires expert skill, an experienced eye for stone and the hands of a master. Allow our stone workmen to bedeck your home.

Paving

Nothing affects the appearance of your property more negatively than a messy, muddy driveway or an unkempt lawn. Broken pavers or uneven areas in existing paving can be the cause of an accidental fall resulting in a broken limb. Let our skilled and experienced team transform your driveway, courtyard, swimming pool area and neglected lawn into neat, attractive newly paved areas. Or replace broken pavers and repair the uneven parts in the existing paving. You choose the paver type such as bricks and cobblestones, we do the paving.

Tiling

Tiles are widely used throughout residential buildings to cover surfaces such as floors, walls, tabletops, patios and balconies. Tiling is a precise and meticulous job if you want professional results and can be unsightly and even dangerous if not done properly. You don’t want tiles to fall off walls or come loose from the floor. Loose tiles also create a safety issue because someone can trip on it, fall and be badly injured. Our tilers are skilled and experienced and work with all types of tiles such as ceramic and porcelain, terracotta, glass, quarry and natural stone tiles.

Painting

We all know the coastal weather conditions that our houses have to endure. The constant dampness, salty sea-winds, sun and rain affects the paint on the exterior walls, roof and gutter system of the house. We need to protect our property against water damage such as rust, mould and damp as well as improve the appearance to retain the value. When we accept a paint job, we do all the preparatory work like sanding, filling holes, priming, waterproofing to deliver a professional outcome and offer you the best value for your money.
